NYC Media is proud to launch NYCMUSICSHOW, a weekly 30-minute television series focusing on the Big Apple’s thriving, eclectic music scene. Viewers will be given unprecedented access to the people making the most exciting music — from jazz, rock and punk to house, folk, metal and everything in between — in the five boroughs. NYCMUSICSHOW premieres on Sunday May 16th at 10pm with encore viewings on Saturday nights at 11pm on NYC life, Channel 25.
Part interview and part documentary with some music videos thrown in for fun, NYCMUSICSHOW is the brainchild of David Schumacher, an award-winning musician-turned-TV producer. “As a musician and music lover, I was frustrated with how difficult it was to keep up with the New York music scene,” says Schumacher. “I’d look at music listings and have no idea who the majority of the bands were. My mission with NYCMUSICSHOW is to create a show where music lovers can get more familiar with what’s happening and who’s who in our astoundingly great — and largely undiscovered — local music scene. Hopefully it will be a place where viewers will get excited, get involved, and get inspired by what’s happening right in their backyards.”
NYCMUSICSHOW is different from other music programming because it's broadcast TV that is a homemade DIY production. A mostly one-man TV production effort, Schumacher, whose credits include 60 Minutes, Project Runway and the Apprentice, shoots most artist interviews in the artists' own homes and then does all post-production on his laptop in his son's bedroom. The show has no budget, but the access to emerging artists is unprecedented and professionally presented.
The premiere episode features local artists Jessica 6, a stylish electro band with a penchant for all things science fiction; rockers Earl Greyhound, who cook up a tasty meal (and some tasty licks) and Naturally 7, a startlingly talented a cappella group in which each member uses his voice to replicate the sound of a different instrument.
Some of the artists to be featured in later episodes of NYCMUSICSHOW include Gordon Voidwell, The Giraffes, Soulive and Navegante.
Support and interest in NYCMUSICSHOW has been growing not only in the music community but also among local businesses: Sam Ash Music (http://www.samashmusic.com/
